I have two Eheim 2217's running in my 125 gal tank with two large adult sliders. Ive had the filters for 7 years and they seem to be starting to die. They do not push water out the spraybar like they used to even after a cleaning. Could they be reaching the end of their lives? They also seem like they get clogged more often which I think is because it doesnt suck the water through as well anymore.

Inspect the impellers... that's usually what goes bad and causes the lack of flow in the pump. The impellers can be ordered and replaced. Also, you may want to inspect/replace the tubing if it's crudded up. Eheim tubing is 5/8" ID. Most fish stores will stock the eheim tubing else a hardware store will have it but it wont be the nice thick green stuff that eheim sells.
How long do the classic canisters last? I've seen a few of them that are coming up to 30 years now.

I will check. I think I am going to order a fluval fx5 and run one of my eheims with it. How much media do you need for that fx5? I was going to run a course pad then ceramic prefileters. then use eheim substate, lastly a fine polishing pad and carbon. How many boxes and pads do I need or anyother advice on how to set it up?
