Equipment Review and Discussion :: Eheim Pro II???

Various accessories and equipment discussed here.

I just ran across a deal for a used Pro II for 80 bucks. I quickly did a search to find that there are quite a few complaints about leaks from either the main gasket or another gasket around a button or something. Anyway, the guy claims everything works in the add. I don't know what size it is yet, but the add says it is good for up to 100 gallons. So I'm just wondering if anyone here has good, bad, or indifferent feelings on this filter. I'm looking for a decent deal on a used canister filter, but I don't want to buy something that is going to be a problem. I saw a couple of references to being able to replace the o rings, but am unsure about one of the o rings. Anyway, any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

How long has he had it? Eheim is a good brand but I think the larger 2128 has better marks. O rings might just need some lubricant, not replacement. And if you're looking to save money, there is a FX5 knockoff for about $60 on ebay.

I've owned an eheim pro II. It's a great filter. The leaking on the eheim pro II was common because Eheim shipped the wrong o-rings on a few lots of filters. The o-rings that are near the intake / outake are the wrong size on some of the filter and it causes the little cup like area near the cord to fill up. Call eheim, they'll send you replacement o-rings or go to your local hardware store with about 80 cents in your pocket and grab some new ones. Remember to put some lubrication (petroleum jelly) on those o-rings as Steve mentioned to keep them from drying out and becoming brittle.
