Hey guys -

I have a Filstar XP3 for my 50 gallon tank. I just recently moved and primed the filter again today and now I have water trickling within the canister. It isn't leaking. I was wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem? I'm just wondering if it is a sign that it is dying...it's been good to me but it is about 5 or so years old. Just wondering if I should get a new one. Just closed on a house and I don't want Dr. Jam's water everywhere! Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!

Just cleaned my xp3 yesterday and I have the same problem. Mines less than a year old. I'll be waiting for an answer with you.

I got something like that too once. I just refilled the hose and capped it off before turning down the lever. It didn't go away at first but did after a day. I think the filter just has to work the air out of the system or something like that.

Yep that's what happened with mine. I left it running and it's worked itself out. I never refill the hose though. I just use the disconnect take the filter and clean it. Then reconnect, wait 2 minutes then plug it back in and that works fine.

Usually that noise occures when there is excessive air in the top half of the canister and the water is falling down inside. You can work at getting the air out. It may require getting your filter full of water before you get it started. If you perge all the air and it does it again you may have a small air leak on the suction side. Good Luck!

sometimes if you gently shake the filter body while it's running, it will help the filter work the air out.
