I'd still recommend an FX5 for turtles.

I have an FX5 for my 120 gallon turtle tank. But I also have a 55g frog tank and I'd just LOVE one of these filters... they are so cool! Especially that you just leave the bio media in there and switch out the chemical and mechanical filtration by popping out the cylinders. Now maybe if they made a G9 or something, that was strong enough for a 120 gallon turtle tank, I'd save up for that!

+1

I just ordered a FX5 new off an ebay store for under $200 yesterday. The G6 is $530. I like the larger media chamber capacity of the FX5 and the fact that I can customize the media I choose to use. I like that I can hide the FX5 in or behind an aquarium stand and not feel bad about it. The G6 filter looks like something that should be displayed proudly. Look at me.. I spent a TON of money on a shiny new filter with an LCD screen. The FX5's are relatively rugged filters with the only complaint being that they clog when the media gets dirty... easy solution to this. The G6 seems a bit more... delicate. Seems too easy to break or scratch. I can see that LCD screen getting wet and messing up when something leaks. Yes the G6 looks nice and the maintence is supposedly easier... but at less than half the price and 3x the filter circulation I'll take the FX5 any day.

I agree about all that... like I said I wouldn't shell out that kind of money for that filter I'm just saying it's neat looking and I really like the idea of being able to change out the chemical/mechanical filtration extremely easily. I have an FX5 for my turtle and I know the G6 can't handle my 120g tank but if was affordable I'd definitely get it for my 55g tank. I guess no one else thinks the G series is cool? That's OK, I still think they are an awesome idea and a step in the right direction for filtration technology. Now they just need to make if affordable.

I think Hagen fluval is trying to recoupe their R&D spend with the current msrp. I'd look at that filter more seriously for a fish only display tank. It's definitely a cool filter and glad to see innovation in the industry. One of the other vendors will copy and release something similar and prices will fall
