its been working fine..perfect no complaints..

but lately the waterflow has been stoping for 5-10 seconds then it would start sucking up water again

and it has been doing it randomly every hour or so?

i havent heard of this. but u might just want to upgrade to a lrger power filter. im getting a new filter tomorrow and im getting the largest power filter i found. it says it can go up to a 90 gallon tank on the box but online they all say 80. either way thats not bad. and best part is im getting ti 30% off than getting a 10$ rebate on top of that so ill get it for abour 20$! haha. but basically im saying power filters arent too expensive so just get another one haha

have you tried running your filter with the media taken out, just to see that the motor and impeller are working properly?

I don't know how big your tank is, but but that Aquaclear 20 is good for a 5-gallon tank. I've used an Aquaclear 50 in a 10-gallon tank, and use an Aquaclear 70 in a 20-gallon tank; I'm also using an Aquaclear 110 in a 40-gallon tank.

I'll bet something is temporarily clogging up the water flow.

The aquaclear 20 says 5-20 US gallon tanks am i right?

and mine is a 20

but last night it was "pausing" more often

every 5 mins...

so i turned it off and when you do that the water exits from the filter and you have to fill it back up

before you start it up..and since i did that it hasnt paused

im so confused haha

The spec is for using it in a fish tank. Turtles are MUCH messier than fish, so a larger model is really necessary.

I still think something was stuck. By stopping it and repriming it, whatever the obstruction was, got disloged.

i would stay from aquaclears unless they are just being used to add filtration but not as your main filter.

I had one when i was starting out. It would get clogged to easy and have to be cleaned it seemed like weekly if not more. Then slowly but surely the motor started going because the outtake kept decreasing even without media.

I would upgrade your filter to a very big canister filter and has a control knob so you can adjust flow rate. It will save you money in the long one.

I should know i have had 3 filters in 6 months with my turtles.

Sir-x I am sure it would be better than nothing? When sizing a filter go by the gph and not what it is sized for. When pet shops give you a tank size or double, triple size tank that means nothing when it comes to turtles. The size given out is for fish. You will want to size by gph. It should be at least a size that will turn your water in tank 5 times per hour (gph)
