So here is my story. I originally bought a eheim ecoo filter but realized it was not powerful enough not to mention i found a eheim classic filter for the same price that filtered over twice the amount of water for the same price. I read up and realized from what i read the classic was longer lasting and better quality.

So i returned the filter to the store and ordered the classic online. Easy enough.... so i thought. I then received the filter relatively fast, it took about a week. Was excited until i open it up and the filter clips where broke. I figured bad luck so i returned in-store took the gift credit i received and reordered the filter received it in another week. Open it up and guess what? More broken clips!!!!!!

So i am on the my third filter being sent to me and am hoping it is not broken.

I would go else where to get my filter but my original payment was with a gift card so that is the only way i could receive the money back.

Sk-ds -- What ever you do stick to the 5x rule or more. You need that volume of water to get the filtration you need. You may want to consider a canister filter.

the filter is for a 160 gallon tank and i have a 55 gallon tank filled to around 40-45 gallons. From what i have read and experience this should be fine. And it is a canister filter. Its the eheim classic canister filter 2217

Sk-ds When filters are sized for a certain size tank it is for fish. When dealing with turtles you need to go by the gph. That is where the 5 times the water volume comes in. I like a little more than that but the 5x will work if all else is working properly.

oh i see what your saying i always thought that it was you buy a filter that is for a tank three times the size of yours. As for the gph it is 264 so that would mean it is 4.8x the size of the tank so it is close to 5 and since my tank is only 3/4 the way full i hope it will be enough.

Skid- The rule of thumb is AT LEAST 5x number. The more ths marrier up to get into a blender. Just keeping the water in a slight swirl would be perfect. Good Luck

although u can get whatever filter you want a good rule to go by is to make sure the filter is recommended for a tank 3 times the size of the one you have. so if u have a 50 gallon tank you should get a filter for a 150 gallon tank. mikee just likes to make it 5x as much. which is much better for ur turtle and will keep ur tank much cleaner longer but is obviously more expensive.
