Equipment Review and Discussion :: incandescent bulbs

Any advice for good brands of lightbulbs, or ways to make them last longer? We use 4 incandescents between Napoleon, Moxie and Mozilla, and they seem to only last 3-4 weeks each. We're using Sylvania brand, solely because those are the only 75 watt bulbs sold in the supermarket near the apartment. Anyone have good luck with another brand?

I have bad luck with Sylvania bulbs around the house. GE bulbs seem to do better for me... but I do not use them for my turts. I do use GE halogen bulbs and those last for a few months.

I've never tried halogen bulbs, how's the heat level?

I use GE brand incandescent bulbs, they seem to last a good 3 months. They say on the package "long lasting" or something like that, which is why I bought them. Not as bad as the other brand I used. I did buy a halogen bulb from the pet store for my turtle initially, and it seemed like it wasn't hot enough for her to want to bask. I am very happy with the heat level that the 60W GE gives.

I use No Name brand because they're super cheap. 4 pack of 60W for $0.88. They last about 3 months. Only problem is that some of them don't work in Frankie's lamp, but they work in other sockets.
Ralph's tank has a halogen reading lamp. The temp was at about 92 last time I checked. I've never had to replace that bulb in 3 years!

Speaking of which, I noticed Frankie's light was out yesterday, and I forgot to replace it! Thanks for the reminder!

I've been using halogen bulbs as well. They are a bit warmer, so checking the temp is a really good idea.

I've been using 60W GE halogen bulbs with the long neck. They are more expensive (6 or 7 bucks) but have been reliable. I did not notice any major differences with the 75W bulb, but I was not taking any notes.

Just note that these use thick glass and are much heaver than a regular bulb. Make sure that the lamp can hold it.
