here's my problem, i think so anyhow. i went from a 48" long tank to a 62" long. i have the in/out at opposite ends of the tank with a sand bottom. the filter doesn't seem to be pushing enough to get the turtle and fish poo to the intake. the only thing i have in the tank is a couple lava rocks (pretty big) and a bubble wand for the fish. he's about 7" and the feeders that where never fed on are close to 6" so it's a lot of poo. so basically do i need to bump it up a bit on the filter or just re-arrange things a bit? thanks a lot.

Cb -- The sand bottom may be a problem if you get the flow up to get the poo moving to the intake. I use the 5x rule which is an "at least" number. I get the flow up and position the out flow hose or tube to cause the water circulates around the tank. When you pick up the flow you will have to be careful not to get the suction so the turtle will get stuck on it. m.

You could put a powerhead in there to help circulate the water. They're not expensive, and you can get them with a foam sleeve over the intake, so it will double as a supplemental bio filter as well. That being said, no filter is going to pick up all the chunks and bits that settle on the bottom.

If I see Turtle turds in the bottom, I usually scoop them up with a small fish net. That's easier for me, though because I don't have any substrate (sand) on bottom of the tank right now.

i cleaned everything except the filter and moved some things around, still no good. no matter how i turn the output i end up with a dead spot. i have a couple aquaclear 70's and some smaller powerheads, going to fiddle with them today. crush had them in before and loved playing in the flow so it'll give him something to do and help me out a bit. i also scoop poop on a regular basis, i have a net that's perfect as it lets the sand fall thru and holds the pooey. oh and my uvb died after i put it all back together, nice. thanks for the help.

I have a 72'' long tank and I run two XP3's, a powerhead, bubble wand, and bubble disk. I just overhauled the entire filtrations system last week to get it to run and we haven't had any issues with it yet. Basically each filter works half of the tank. Before doing that I had a huge problem with dead spots.

I had to change from the regular output to the spray bar. And I had to lengthen the tubes so I could have the spray bars running along the bottom of the tank.

You might have to add a second filter or get a new, stronger one.
