Right now I'm considering these two options for lighting and/or heating.

I've come to the conclusion that the clamp system may be more worthwhile in the long run, compared combo fixture system, as the combo fixture seems to be more expensive (if it breaks down) to replace compared to a clamp. I've heard you can get a clamp from hardware stores as well..think they call them "work lights" according to another member here. I'm going to go the clamp route but use it with one of those hanger/stands.

The bulbs for the clamp system seem more readily available as well as it uses a regular "light bulb" socket. If you REALLY needed a quick replacement you can just use a household bulb for emergent situations.

What do you guys think?

For your basking heat bulb, you can just use an incandescent household bulb anyways. I have been using a 60W one since my reptile one burnt out at the young age of 3 months. They last longer, are super cheap, and work just as well.

The only important bulb you need a fixture for is that UVB. For that, you just want to use something rated for your bulb.

I would almost set up the clamp hanger/stand system you are thinking about, esp. if you are planning on upgrading to a greater than 55 gallon tank, at which point you can use a mercury vapor bulb for some two-in-one basking action. The only catch with those is that you need a ceramic fixture, I believe, because they get quite warm. But then you are only replacing the fixture.
