i'm not sure what water heater to buy. i heard the marineland ones were good, but i read ChrisBarnett's post on his marineland heater dying out for some reason, so i'm hesitant to buy one. which do you guys think i should buy?

i would go ahead and get the marineland. i have heard way more good things about the stealths than the bad even after reading the post chris made

I've heard almost all good things about the stealths, though I've never had one.
I bought the cheapest I could find for Frankie's tank, and I couldn't be happier with it! It's the Hagen Elite 300W. It was $29.99, but I bought a second one for backup on sale for only $18!

I would also go with the Marineland visi therm stealth. Even though mine just crapped out for no reason. I think I got a lemon heater.

I also like the Theo Hydor heaters though(what I just got for my tank after my marineland). Ebo Jagers are pretty good also.

I HAD to invest in a Stealth - Sylvia has cracked so many glass heaters! This one is all black plastic; I've had it over a year now, and it works great...lets off a lot of heat!

I'm very happy with it and will buy another once she cracks the older, glass heater.

i've heard great things about the stealths too. And nice steal! i usually check ebay to find cheap prices.

how long did you have the marineland before it died? lol, what's a lemon heater? i've never heard of Ebo Jagers, but they look good . thanks for your input

I had it for a little over 4-5 months.

A lemon heater is just like a lemon car, a random piece of crap that breaks all the time when they are usually reputable. I still have faith in the Stealth heaters though, I just got unlucky.

i might have it plugged it in that already, but what exactly is a GFCI outlet? those types where they are all plugged into one spot & there's a button to turn the power on & off? i'm sorry if that was a bad description

That's a surge protector. GFCI stands for Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter. You should be able to easily find one at a local hardware store.
