i just shorten the outlet hose on my eheim filter and when i turned it back on it started to make noise like it has air in it. i un hooked it opened it up and let water come back into it and started it again. i took it out again and even filled it up by scooping water out of my tank and dumping it into it till it was overflowing. i thought the problem was solved but its doing the same thing still. i turned it off and now my water is very dirty. any idea what could be wrong?

Sounds like the filter isn't priming. Try filling the canister and tubes with water and then tipping the closed filter from side to side to get all air bubbles up and out of the canister.

How long are you leaving the filter on each time? This time try letting the filter struggle for a bit longer to see if it can work out all the bubbles.

What type of filter do you have?

Do your intake and output hoses have valves on them that you close to disconnect them from the filter?

i have an eheim 2217. there are quick disconnect on the input and out put but those are connected just fine. last night i decided to just let it run and see what would happen i think it finally worked itself out. after getting some sleep i think i figured out that it was because the new filter pads i put in. they must have had some air trapped in them

I usually rock and shake the canister a bit after reconnect to try and expel trapped air. That was going to be my only suggestion. Glad this worked out on it own.
