They've been recalled and discontinued. If you look at the Marineland webpage, the stealth & stealth pro heaters are no longer sold.

So can I take it into petco for store credit? I don't want this thing in my aquarium anymore I afraid it will blow up.

No idea. Your best bet is to contact your local petco and find out.

For a human product, you wouldn't need the receipt or original box, but not sure about a pet product. Having a copy of the recall would probably be a good idea.

Yes! As far as I know, they took all the Stealth heaters out.

For most recalled products like this it works as follows:

The store takes back the product as is without any receipt. The store offers you store credit. The store turns the recalled product into the manufacturer for a monetary credit. If Marineland is still providing $$ to stores for their recall, then the store will probably take the product back. Your best bet is to take the heater in hand to the store and ask.

Cool thanks. I'm taking it after school to PETCO to see what happens I emailed marineland and they said they would give me a refund without reciet by the average retail price but I'd much rather do it through PETCO so hopefully I wont have any issues

If you do it through Marineland and get the average retail price.... you could use that towards the purchase of an Eheim Jager heater :D

If you take it to PETCO, you're stuck with the line of heaters they sell.

Im getting a refund for my money not a heater exchange since our texas weather is pretty much scorching hot in the summer. I need a UVB bulb and I can use that money towards it. But I went to PETCO and they turned me away. I don't think that lady understood me, she kept saying something about a 30 day return policy and it's original box and recite. I don't think she understood the word recall lol. Oh well Marineland is going to send me a prepaid box to send the heater to them and they are going to give me a cash refund probably in a check.

This is the email I got from drsfostersmith last year:

As a valued customer, your safety and satisfaction is our priority. If you are still using one of the Marineland Stealth Heaters in question, please take the following steps:

Unplug the heater from the wall to stop the flow of electricity
Let the heater cool for 15 minutes
Remove the heater from the tank

UPG will arrange the return of the recalled model(s) in your possession in exchange for your choice of a free replacement heater (Visi-Therm Deluxe), or full refund. Please contact UPG at (800) 338-4896 between 7:30 am - 5:30 pm EST Monday through Friday to begin the process.

Let me know if it works, I still have four of these garbage sticks in storage. :)

That's cool if UPG will handle the refund directly without the store in the middle.

LMAO "garbage sticks".... I have a pile of them in a bucket as well. I used to use one of the larger ones as a stir stick to mix salt water.
