so my one clamp lamp can point straight down and my other cant so i was switching the bulb to make the basking bulb be down the the uvb pointing at the basking area from an angle on my ATBA and low and behold i broke it and it made a pop and fizz sound like when u open soda, ugh... i hate how these things happen to me

That sucks. I always remove the lamp when changing bulbs. Hopefully the mess wasn't a big problem.

You broke your UVB bulb? That's a compact fluorescent bulb, which contains mercury and a mercury vapor. You need to clean up the pieces carefully and DO NOT DISPOSE OF THEM IN YOUR TRASH. These need to be specially dropped off to your landfill or waste disposal location likely during a hazardous materials drop off time.

As such, you need to monitor your health to make sure that you don't suffer any problems from something you may have inhaled. They don't make the bulbs sound dangerous on the package, but they are! That goes for the CFLs that we are putting into our light sockets these days as well. They shouldn't contain enough mercury to do anything major, but you may want to check online or with a doctor to make sure.

it didnt break into pieces but it cracked at the base. i got this to replace it, hope it is right: Repti Glo 5.0 Compact

Those bulbs are the ones I buy. They are good, the light lasts long past the 6-8 months when the UVB should weaken, so I keep one over the basking area that is a good, new UVB and the other one in the second socket as tank light, til it burns out at least!
