unless you have some thick plexiglass or you really stabilized it, you probably can't just clip it on, but you can try reinforcing it with something else.

I put a little layer of eggcrate all around my plexiglass top so that is reinforces the area.

I opted not to glue my plexiglass together (since there really isn't going to be pressure on them from the turtles) so instead I drilled holes and used a mix of zipties and those little wires used at grocery stores

wait a second so how does the plexi glass stay connected its obviously not all one piece of plexi glass . and how does it stay on the tank, if its not glued to the tank???

nothing is glued down.

I bought four pieces of plexiglass, all cut at the hardware store

I don't remember the exact dimensions, but 2 were about 2.5 feet x 6inches
and the other like 8 inches x 6 inches.

the four pieces are connected by zipties only and the whole thing simply rests on the tank

This will be dependent on the style of your ATBA, but I built mine with the basking platform raised about 3 inches over the top lip of the tank. This let me install "under cabinet" fluorescent light fixtures UNDER the basking platform, lighting the water below.
