hi i have 2 res. i got a female then after a week i got a male
they were both the same size but the female did not let the male eat
the male is really scared of me and the female so it did not get to eat as much. now every time i put food in the tank the male swims really fast away from me and the female gets all the food this has been going on for a long time and the female is bigger than the male
wat can i do to make the male more happy and not stressed out all the time? :(

You should try separating them to feed them. You may even want to think about keeping them in separate tanks, or getting a bigger tank if they don't seem to be coexisting peacefully.

You could try to put the male in a diferent tank.
Put some food in it and leave the male alone maybe than he will eat his food.

How large is their tank? Can you feed them in separate tanks or in separate corners of their main tank?

Since the male is the timid one, you can take the female out of the tank when you feed the male. Keep her someplace safe while she's out.

How big are these turtles (how long is the shell?). Just so you know, turtles don't need a "friend." Is there any way you can take the male back where you got him? If you only have a 10 gallon tank, that is WAY too small for 2 turtles. 10 gallon tank is only big enough for ONE baby turtle (1 inch long shell baby!).

When the tank is too crowded, then the turtles will fight. I think that is what is happening to you.

They do need to be in a larger tank, or two separate tanks.

if you're able to tell the gender of your turtle, it's probably around 4", right? You can't tell the gender until they get close to that big.

If she's 4" she could really benefit from a bigger tank. In too small a tank she won't have the room she needs to swim and get excersized. It also has benefits for you! It is much easier to keep a bigger tank clean than a tank that is too small.

I used to have to clean my girls' tank and replace the filters every few days. I got them a bigger tank and I haven't had to clean or change the filters yet (it's been a month now).
