Baby fish + filter =?

HI I'm getting some feeder fish soon and I was wondering if the guppies/minnows breed would the fry get sucked up by the filter? I don't have any pantyhose to cover the intake...It's a small submersible filter.
Or would the fry be smart enough to avoid the filter?

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

It depends on the filter but yes, fry do sometimes get sucked into filters. They're not very smart.

I didn't have that problem with the guppy fry, but then they also didn't last very long with the turtles.

If you have fish in there, you will just have to turn the water pressure down on your filter. Every filter has some kind of lever that will allow you to adjust the water speed thru the filter.

Unfortunately, I agree with everyone here. Guppies are not very bright & they won't necessarily avoid the filter.

If they're looking for a place to hide, they definitely won't avoid the filter.

Maybe you should get some mesh and put it on the filter.
