Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Post Posted: Mon Mar 19, 2007 1:04 am   Does this look like OK feeding?

I have noticed that my turtles have been growing a bit too fast, so i decided to start being more strict on their diet, so here it goes.

Monday - 4 Reptomin sticks and red leaf lettuce (in the morning), 3 Zoo med pellets (afternoon)

Tuesday - 4 Wardley pellets and green leaf lettuce (in the morning), 3 Zoo med pellets (afternoon)

Wednesday - 4 Zoo med pellets and shredded carrot bits (in the morning), 2 Reptomin sticks and 1 Wardley pellet (afternoon).

Thursday - 4 Reptomin pellets and some Water cress (in the morning), 2 Zoo med pellets and 2 wardley pellets (afternoon).

Friday - 4 Zoo med pellets and some shredded carrots bits with some romaine lettuce and green leaf lettuce (in the morning), 4 Wardley pellets (afternoon).

Saturday - 4 Dried shrimp treats each (in the morning), Red leaf lettuce and Reptomin(afternoon).

Sunday - 4 reptomin pellets, and boston lettuce with some romaine (in the morning), 2 Freeze dried crickets each (calcium dusted).

Any advice? Thank you.

Feed them once a day. What size are they? Even my 1 1/2 inch baby res get fed once in the morning and that's it. For pellets once they are over 4 inches they get every other day feedings, and once 7 or more they get every three days on the pellets. Greens are a daily thing since I feel like I have to feed them daily.

They both are a centimeter or two away from being 3 inches, so cut down on and feed just once a day, right? On another turtle forum i got told that they could be fed twice a day as long as i balance it out with veggies.

I wanted to get input from you guys before i start anything.

Once a day is fine. Here's what I do with Sheba (of course, Sheba is bigger so you will want to do pellets daily):

Day1:
romaine/collards in the AM before I leave for work (just toss in tank).
Reptomin pellets in the PM when I get home from work.

Day 2:
Romaine/collards in the AM before I leave for work (toss in tank)
NO pellet day

Day 3 is the same as Day 1, etc.

Once in a while, I might feed her a blueberry which she LOVES. A coupla times a month, I skip a pellet-day altogether & just feed her sweet potato or maybe some other vegetable that day in place of the pellets. Again, she LOVES that. :)

i feed them wardley, sometimes apples and bananas, i cut pieces of lettuce and thats how they began to like veggies hehe.

So, i have feed them wardley all of their life, could that be one factor they havent been growing properly?.

Well I don't know but there are other pellets with better reputations than Wardley's. Why don't you try the Reptomin sticks. You can get them almost everywhere and most turtles love them. They've got a very good reputation. I've given my turtle several different types of pellets and the only ones he likes are Reptomin and Mazori.

I dont think its a problem if you break up their serving sizes and feed them more than once a day, like you are saying eddie, instead of 7 pellets at once, give 4 in the morning and 3 at night... I like to give karlyn her pellets in the morning and give her veggies at night... otherwise she will beg and I feel Im depriving her! :D
