Feeding and Nutrition :: What colors are your turtle attracted to???

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

My turtle is attracted to purple. He eats everything that is purple but will refuse to eat anything thats green. I put in some romaine lettuce (The purple kind) and then fed in some green kind. He ate the romaine in like 5 minutes but wouldn't even nibble on the green one.

I thought this was strange and i tried it with grapes, I took the purple kind and the green kind. The same outcome happened, The purple one was gone but there wasnt even a nibble on the green one.

Anyone know of others things i can feed my turtle that is purple, that will be healthy for them?

Also, what colors are your turtle attracted to?

Interesting! My turtle is pretty good about eating green things but he isn't interested in red things - like a lot of turtles are. He's not interested in strawberries or tomatoes or cherries or purple grapes. He will eat a blueberry. He'll eat a fig.

Maybe blueberries and figs are close enough to purple to interest your turtle! But these are fruit and shouldn't be given but once in a blue moon.

I guess you've seen the info on this site on vegetables for turtles. Not too many purple things on it!

Hercules loves yellow! Not sure why, we haven't tried feeding him anything yellow, but Michael was wearing a yellow sweater last week and he got so excited! As far as food, he loves carrots, and tolerates lettuce, but I tried one of those San Francisco Bay frozen cubes and he didn't even seem to recognize it as food. Napoleon likes red and orange, especially carrots and red peppers, but he freaks out when I feed him anything, or even stand near the tank. He's an excitable little guy!

Mine like my hands...They knock the thermometor off sometimes and sticking a hand in there to fix things is really like sticking your hand in a tank full of pirhanas.

Mine are definitely in the 'I love red and orange' category. Red grapes, red peppers, tomatos, carrots...

They still eat everything else though, so I don't have to worry. I usually buy prepackaged salad mixes for them. They have a variety of greens and usually a few carrots thrown in...they always eat the carrots first.

When it comes to grapes or tomatos I actually have to separate them. They get way to aggressive over those things.
