hi im a new member here and was wondering if anyone has heard of www.zoofood.com our vet recommended to us to feed our sliders the reptile variety of thier food. just wondering if any one here uses it and what they think about it.

weird, i have never heard of it and never used it before.

i thoght it was weird to but our vet has ben a vet for a long time and worked for zoos for many years so were testing it out, he said that its the same food they use at zoos, so far or male res eats like candy but our female wont touch it. shes always been a little finicky though i think it has to do with her being realitivly young still.

I glanced at the food for omnivorous reptiles, which includes ingredients like crushed roasted peanuts, corn syrup solids and dried bakery products. What the heck are dried bakery products???

i am feeding them the reptile insectivore fare. Dried bakery products i suspect are a filler, i also found them in this food. http://www.hikariusa.com/reptile_diets.htm corn syrup solids are a sweetner (totaly useless) probably there to make it taste better to the animals, and crushed roasted peanuts the only thing i can think of is for protien? im not really sure about the ingredients either, this is a vet we recently found on an online search and our trying him out, (he has a website at www.exopet.com) because the vet we had been taking our turtles to im not sure is all that knowledgeable about turtles

Can't say much about it (am not crazy about some of those ingredients, though, especially if the pellet is the only on included in the diet). Different zoos feed different brands of food, I suppose. Some of the more well-known zoos feed (or used to feed) Mazuri (a Purina product) to their reptiles.

The protien and fat content is low enough, but the moisture seems pretty high. They may fall apart if not eaten quickly (no problem for my guys). Let us know how your turt likes them.

I do find it odd that a vet would recommend that, I don't think it is that difficult/expensive to feed a turtle a healthy diet with real veggies, so why go to a prepackaged meal?
