Feeding and Nutrition :: Nemo

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

I have 2 turtles, about 4 inches and then a 3 inch. They never had a fish before, so since i got them a new tank ( way bigger) and there tank is all set. I decided to buy them 2 . After about a week, i would see them trying to get them but the fish were too fast. Then one night, the bigger one - Crush- was following Nemo ( fish) and then Squirt( smaller turtle) would join in and after a 5 min. they'd give up. this went on for about an hour, and i felt really bad for him. So i decided to " help" him. Caught the fish with my hand and held it in the water for about 15-20 seconds then I'd let it go and toss it in front of Crush. He's go after it but he was just too slow and i guess not experienced . So i kept on having to catch the fish and tossing is until i finally got tired and held it by its tails until he saw it,then let it go right in front of him. that still didn't work, but he eventually caught it!! I was so happy for him , i grabbed my camera and took pic of it too! i felt bad for the fish though because Crush took his time in eating him and he wasn't very good at it either. anyways, i just thought i would share that....

It took my RES a while to become an expert hunter. She actually lived with several guppies in her tank for months before she finally got the idea. I did the same thing, catching them and holding them right in front of her face, but she just needed to do it in her own time. Now she's vicious!
