Feeding and Nutrition :: feeding freqency and quantity

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Should I be feeding my RES daily? She seems to like the Tetra ReptoMin food sticks, but I am not sure how many to give her and how often. 2 x's a day is too much. When I feed her  1 x per day she does not always eat. Any suggestions? Also, how many sticks at one time. She is about 4 W x 5 L.
Thanks

How much are you feeding her? If I'm reading this correctly, you're turtle is 5".. at that size they should be fed every other day, the amount that can fit in their head (without the neck) if it were hollowed out. Is she getting any veggies at all? If not, check out this list of what sorts of veggies you can feed :)

If you want to feed your turtle daily, you give half a head-size amount each day. Plant matter/veggies can be offered daily.

Thanks so much for the information. I have tried to feed her romaine and celery, she does not seem to like it, but i will keep trying. Have a great weekend.

celery has little to no value for turtles. It's mostly water. Try some of the other green leafy veggies on the list or red leaf lettuce :)

Carol,
She did not eat any of that lettuce, not yet anyway. I have a question, how full is your 75 gallon tank and is ur filter designed for turtles or is it a fish tank filter. Also, what type of filter did you say it was?
Thanks,
George

Sorry I'm not Carol BUT, I assume that...

Her 75 gallon tank is probably filled up as much as possible, meaning 3/4 and up. The turtle specific filters are garbage, go for the Aquaclear 110 if you want a hang on type filter (rated for tanks 110 gallons) OR The Rena Filstar XP3 canistar filter (rated for 175 gallons)

I'm pretty sure she uses the Xp3.....

Thanks, I think I remember her saying it was the Aquaclear. I will take your advice. Looks like my tank needs more water.

Yes I used an Aquaclear 110 in my 75 gallon tank that was about 3/4 of the way full. I didn't want to get the xp3 because I felt the gph rating was as good if not higher on the Aquaclear and I NEVER had a problem with water quality .. be it clear water or any other thing, so why mess with what isn't broken??? Oh and I didn't/don't mind the waterfall sound :)

Discussed this very issue ages ago :)

You can silicone a piece of plexiglass to the lip to quiet the noise if you want to.
