Feeding and Nutrition :: Milfoil

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

I just noticed on the new and improved res.com site that one of the aquatic plants on the list is Water Milfoil. I'm assuming this is the same kind of milfoil that grows in lakes?
Is it alright to feed milfoil from the lake? I can get it from a private beach where the water is much cleaner than any of the public beaches around.

id be a little wary about getting anything i would feed to my RES from a beach of any sort. If there was even the slightest bit of contamination it may lead to something serious. Just my opinion. I am in no way trying to act like i know what i am talking about. Maybe someone wit just a little more knowledge can tune-in on this. Just my 2 cents.
Lord,
Grant me the serenity to accept the things i cannot change.
The courage to change the things that I can.
And the wisdom to know the difference.

You're right turtledudee, milfoil is a big problem... So I thought I'd help get rid of some of it, one leaf at a time! :lol:

Yes, I was being wary too, which is why I thought I'd see if anyone else on here has tried it. The beach is at least 10km downstream of any human activity, so any pesticide stuff would be minimal, if that's what you were thinking.
Beaver Fever was a problem a few years ago, but I don't know if that affects turtles :?

I was looking on ebay the other day and found a plant seller that suggested soaking the plants in a mild bleach solution for 5 mins or so, then rinsing the plants off... That would take care of any biological nasties, but has anyone tryed something like this with any other aquatic plants?
