Feeding and Nutrition :: Is Protein the cause of Pyramiding??

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

So I read that box turtles only eat vegetables and cases with box turtles becoming over weight and pyramiding is due to being feed foods with Protein in it.

I was wondering if this applies to RES too. I mean, I sometimes worry because I feed my two little turtles vegetables (romain lettuce, red leaf lettuce) everyday and I don't exactly know if it would cause pyramiding or over weight problems, or any other problems at all (other then causing the turtles to have the runs)

Do you guys mind telling me how much of the vegetables to feed my turtles? Or can I feed them as much as they want to eat the vegetables?

Feeding veggies daily is good, but if it is to the point of the runs, then you are feeding too much. The protein is a big factor in pyramiding, but you don't need to worry about it coming from the veggies. If you are worried about pyramiding, watch the pellet intake, and other treats like live prey or tuna and chicken.

Here is some general info http://www.redearslider.com/pellets.html

One of my RES devours everything, so I have to be careful about the veggies, because like Missi said, they can get the runs and even vomit. Neither is nice to clean up. She gets about 70% veggies, but she is older and some of that is just to pacify her a bit.
