HELP! EATING DISORDER!

hi my name is charles and my RES has not been eating. I've got him in August, it was eating before but around October, my RES stopped eating. The temperature of my tank is around 80ish. It just keeps sitting on the rock and basking. Please help, I think my turtle has an eating disorder. [/img]

How large is your turtle? Water temperature for hatchlings should be around 78 degrees, adults 73-75. Keep offering food, try dipping the food in tuna juice or try feeding him foods that are high in scent. Even if he or she continues to refuse continue offering fresh feed daily. Young turtles are more carnivorous and adults seem to prefer veggies.

Look under feeding and nutrition for foods that are good for RES.

What foods are you offering?

It's still a baby. It's a little less that 2 inches. I'm offering the ReptoMin. I've tried all kinds of food and it's still refusing to eat.

Rather than just saying the temp of the tank is "around 80ish," what exactly is the temp of the water and basking area? Get a thermometer and check the temps.

-sigh-

The temperature before was 82 and now I lowered it to 78. I think my turtle is dying. I found her basking this morning and when I put her in the water, she just seems to float there. Not only that, she's a lil lopsided too when she floats. What can I do?

Here are some tips: http://www.redearslider.com/entice_eating.html

If the turtle is having difficulty swimming, then I would keep her out of the water, unless she was supervised. Do you suspect a cause to these changes?

If she's swimming/floating lopsided, that sounds serious. That's a key symptom of a respiratory infection (RI). You say she's lethargic, no appetite? She needs to see a herp vet right away.

Any wheezing? Breathing with her mouth open?

She breathes with her mouth open. She looks depressed all the time. She doesn't want to eat anything I give her. I've tried to do what that website suggested. But nothing works. Is there anything else I can do?

I'm afraid she's got an RI and it will take a herp vet to deal with it.

I'll be pulling for you!
