my turtles never liked Carrots no matter how I sliced them or what I did to them. So, I'm by no means an expert on them.. BUT.. I do know that others have had issues with the beta carotene in carrots changing the colors of their turtles if they were fed too often. I'd start with once a week and see how things go. The are also higher in sugar than the greens. I'm sure someone else will add in their advice.

Mine used to get them weekly, but now they only get them when I do a water change every couple of months just because of the mess. I grate the carrots and feed them in a different container. My res both developed and orange color to their plastrons as a result. My vet actually said they had the prettiest plastrons he'd ever seen. The first pic is one of my res. The second is a rescue that was re-homed. Don't know what it was fed previous but I didn't have her long.

my little guy loves carrots alot! i would toss in a small piece, and 5 minutes later its gone. he goes after that more than lettuce.

im no expert, but ive read that you shouldnt feed them too much carrots because of the natural sugar, and the acid a carrot has. some feed them carrots once a week.

Mine get carrots about once a week. I make long thin peels that look like worms, and my turtles like to rip them apart.

My john deere res wont eat it it goes straight to the fliter and he wont go near it

If it's getting sucked into the filter then you should buy a food clip. They're very cheap $1-$2 and come in handy.

Uhm... I put some carrot in my turtles tank and... She kinda liked it... I sliced it into really small pieces. There happened to be a piece larger than her head. I don't know why she chose that piece of carrot over the rest but she just took it and couldnt eat it! It was so big she just swam around with it in her mouth it was so cute! eventually she bite into it and ate it oh it was so adorable... Swiming around with a piece of carrot in her mouth i wish i could of took a piture lol

mine likes carrots too.. and their beaks will turn orange if they eat a lot..



but as you can see.. Yumi has a hole in her beak.. when i got her, her beak was slightly different from Ami's and one day, there is a hole.. think its because she bite on the hard carrot perhaps..

I don't see a hole in the beak (is it cracked), just orange lips. If the beak has gone from looking different to what you say is a hole, perhaps you should have a herp vet check out the area...

i cut the carrot into thin slivers or little chunks not even half the size of my pinky fingernail, and my little guy has no problem eating them. i didn't know i wasn't supposed to feed him carrots more than about once a week though! at least he's not turning orange.

Napoleon gets carrots roughly twice a week, primarily because it's the main thing available to mix with his greens for variety. I've not noticed a color change in his shell (although he is a western painted, so I might not notice any extra orange on the plastron!) But he also gets the red lips, it looks like he has lipstick on. It's really cute. He adores carrots.

Wow, I am very glad I found this thread! I didn't realize that carrots could be offered too often. Crush finally started eating veggies, particularly carrots. I think i've given him carrots 3 times this week and i just noticed his lips are kinda pinkish. I was worried. Glad to know I just need to hold back on the carrots a bit.

Just this morning, I looked inside the tank to find this yellowish/orangish substance floating in the water and a tad bit of some dark dirt like substance on the bottom along with what looked like old scute, she's shedding. Quite alarmed, I tried to find what it could be and ended up just scooping it up and took a whif and sure enough, it smelled like poop.
Any of you noticed this? The only change to her diet has been carrots. I fed her two days in a row last week, slightly smaller than the size of her head. Although, it smelled like waste, I'm not quite sure since it was floating.
