Feeding and Nutrition :: feeder fish

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

This has probably been asked elsewhere, but I couldn't find much on it. My girl and I have two hatchlings, i've been trying to work in some romaine every now and then but they don't seem interested. I still give them pellets, but I want to try putting some fish in there. For hatchlings, are fish too much? Will this create a huge mess, or will it harm my turtles at all?

Well I put a few feeder fish into my turtle's tank but they didn't last very long they all died. I would asume that it was because the water was a warmer temperature than the fish were used to.

You couldn't find anything on this topic after doing a search?? you must not be doing the search right because here are a lot of them. :)

feeder fish should be a treat only not a staple of their diet. Makes sure you don't buy expensive fish or goldfish. Goldfish are too fatty and often carry parasites. If they eat the whole fish it's not that messy.. :)

I'd probably go with gutloaded crickets.. either live or freeze dried. As for the lettuce, just leave it in there .. put some in every day and they'll sooner or later realize it's food. If you want, you can cut back on the pellets and use some tough love to get them to eat it.

I have used things like dried shrimp for my turtles. They eat that, as well as they are starting to eat a few pellets now and again. I have a tiny guppy in there now but they wont eat him yet, he is still to quick. It was a funny thing to see though, them trying to catch the guppy.
