Feeding and Nutrition :: Rosies?

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Post Posted: Sun Nov 19, 2006 1:32 am   Rosies?

My RES is 3 inches long and i want to start introducing rosies into his diet. Could someone please fill me in on an idea of how many to let swim around his tank at 1 time. And how often?

And should i still be tossing in his pellets even tho he has prey?

I dont wanna risk over feeding or cause any problems wit his diet.

I am new to all this so if someone would help me Norman would really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance :D

i forget, how big is your turtle? my turtle is about 5.5 inches and i usually toss in about 5 at a time.. he usually eats them all that day, so i dont give him any pellets for a few days after that (unless he begs and begs.. then ill give him a couple)
i used to put 10 in at a time, but what would happen would be he would eat mmost of them and leave 2 in there for months and become friends with the fish and wouldnt wanna eat them lol. now i just get 5 at a time.. if u let me knoe how big ur turtle is i could give u a better idea.. if hes a baby, 5 might still be ok. they will swim around until he decided he wants to eat them. whether or not you feed pellets is your choice. he will prob be less likely to eat the fish if your going to give him the pellets (why chase something when there is food right there) although i think it depends on the individual turtle

My turtle is about the same size as yours, maybe 3/4 of an inch bigger. When I buy him rosies (at most once every two or three weeks) I buy him 10 of the smallest ones they have. He usually only catches 3-4 the first day and gradually eats the rest over the week but one or two survive and end up growing to be these huge beastly rosies in my tank that Leo forgets about until I add more fish :-).

HaHa - I'm picturing huge beastly rosies like sea monsters! Actually, I kind of like those huge rosies - they clean up the bottom of the tank pretty well!

I put a guppy in my tank, and what happend??? The XP3 cleaned it up haha. So i'll have to let them get a lil bigger. I want to try to get some of these to breed this way i can have my fish for them..

The ghost shrimp... Still rolling around, at least until they get noticed.
