I wouldn't do that with something like a cockroach, especially since you have no idea where its been and what kind of chemicals and god knows whate else it has been exposed to.
I believe there are suppliers online that you can buy them from. I have a friend who works for a herp supplier I'll ask him and see what he can come up with.

My turtle would eat *anything* crawling (like a cockroach).
Not sure where you can buy these (or even IF you can buy them). I have caught the occasional cockroach outdoors, or even trying to sneak into my house! Little bastard. It immediately gets fed to Sheba, who is happy to get rid of it for me!
There are a lot of "safe" bugs in a can that you can get for your turtle as an occasional treat. They have can 'o hoppers ("grasshoppers"), can 'o worms, can 'o crickets, etc. These are great and my turtle loves them. They can be expensive though (sometimes almost $5/can depending on where you buy them). The canned bugs are sometimes better than the "real" bugs since they don't have all those nasty parasites, etc. Once the can is opened, you can store it in the fridge for up to a week.
Just be forwarned that the bugs kinda *stink* when you open the can. Peee-Yoooo! AND they actually "feel" like the real bugs (kinda soft & icky). Not for the squeamish turtle hobbyist. LOL!
