Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

 I'll try to provide as much information as possible to help. I've had Stewie for about 10 days now. Pet shops in my area don't sell turtles, and if they do they want big bucks for them, therefore I ordered Stewie online from what I feel is a reliable source. Stewie was born in the Fall this year and is about an inch. His home is a 30 gallon tank filled about 3/4 of the way full, with a heater (water temp. about 80), floating dock w/ basking light (not 100% sure of the temp there but he uses it), and filter. There are a few rocks in the bottom of his tank for him to "play" with and will be adding some floating plants as soon as I get to the store again. As I said, I've had him for 10 days now and I do not think he's eaten yet. I've tried pellots (2 kinds, the kind he was supposedly being fed there, and tutle bites), freeze dried bloodworms, and carrots. So far it's a no go on all counts. I attempted to feed him in a smaller tank and ended up now trying to just feed him in his regular one, so that I don't disturb him and his getting to know his surroundings. He swims fine and seems to enjoy swimming around. He only basks when I'm not around or he can't see me watching. He spends his time when I am around hiding under his floating dock/basking platform. Is it normal for them to lay upside down/sideways? He seems to sleep this way...I was worried so I reached in to see if he was still alive and he opened his eyes and swam away from me. I haven't noticed any signs that he's sick, other than him not eating. I'm a bit worried considering it's been 10 days. I've done a bit of reading on here and plan to try soaking food in tuna tomorrow, and trying to purchase feeder guppies as well. Thanks in advance for your help!

See what happens when you offer the tuna-water-soaked food. Lots of people have success with it. If that doesn't work, if it were me I'd offer him a little of the tuna. My RES goes absolutely bananas over a fresh shrimp (peeled). If he were to ever refuse a shrimp I'd really worry. If it were me I'd offer a little shrimp. My turtle won't give the time of day to a carrot but will eat some greens. His favorite is fresh basil, which I always have around since I grow it, but he'll also occasionally eat romaine, which a lot of people on here highly recommend. You might trya little romaine or red leaf lettuce.

I don't know about him sleeping upside down or sideways. Do you mean he wedges himself inbetween the basking platform and the wall of the tank to sleep? That can be dangerous for a little turtle.

He lays there under it, but doesn't wedge himself. He just kinda lays there in the water sideways....Kinda strange looking to me.

I caught him! I snuck up on him while heading back into the living room and cought him munching on the freeze dried bloodworms! I feel a lot better now, even if it was only a bite and he did stop as soon as he saw me. :D

I'm still going to give the tuna-water soaked pellets a try tomorrow and see what happens.

Brine shrimp work wonders when they won't eat anything. Just keep trying. He's probaby getting used to the 'move' to his new home/environment.
