Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

is it bad to have the guppies in water above 78? I have them in about 84 degree water, and I can't seem to get it lower. I have decided to try my hand at a second aquarium to grow guppies and edible plants, but it seems to want to be @ 84-85 despite it only being 72 in the house, and unplugging the heater.

I'd get a second thermometer. I don't see how the water could be so warm without a heater and with cool air temperature.

I took the digital out of the turtle tank to check, per your suggestion. It really is 84. I was hoping you were right! That seems like the logical answer! It might be the light heating the water? I just don't know! :?

What sort of light have you got on the tank, and what size is it? If it's a smaller tank, and the light gives off a significant amount of heat, then the water will heat up...

Or you have endothermic guppies xD
That would be cool! You could just get a few of those, throw them in your tank, and you'd never need a water heater!

It is a small tank, about 6 gallons. The light is a 12 inch 8 watt I think?

Put your hand under the light for a few seconds... If you notice some warmth, that's probably it... To fix it, you could leave the light off a bit longer during the day...

It doesn't feel extremely warm, but I will certainly try turning the light off earlier. One of the guppies died, I hope it wasn't the heat? :(

okay, i tossed the guppies into the 75 gallon with the turtles. I think I need to find some fish that like heat for the small aquarium! I can't believe how warm the water is staying in there! Urgh!
