Do you bake or microwave the pumkin rind before you give it to your turtle? Or do you just cut it up small and leave it raw? I cut up small pieces because it is really hard and tough.

Are you supposed to feed them the stringy stuff?

I myself, just steamed pumpkin this morning for them. I scooped out seed and stringy stuff, cut it into slices and steamed one. They are having little nips of it off the rind!

I haven't tried pumpkin yet, but I've tried butternut squash. I tried both steamed chunks and strips of raw, and he seems to like it either way, so I usually just do it raw.

Doesn't it have more nutrition if it is not cooked? But I thought it might taste better or be softer?

My turts love pumpkin. It's easier for them to eat if it's lightly steamed (it's softer), and I think tastes a bit sweeter. Contrary to what people think, steaming it makes more beta carotene (precursor to Vit A) available for utilization, and therefore more nutritious.

I gave some to my guys, they sniffed it, then just turned their nose up and swam away...

I tried pumpkin with Tanner. He looked at it then gave me a look like "you don't expect me to eat THAT, do you?".

Ah, you get that "look" too? My big guy Bozo is ALWAYS giving me that "look". Sometimes even with his favorites.
He HATES crickets....Whoever heard of a turtle not liking crickets?
Refuses to chase fish. (I think he is just lazy). The only way he'll eat one is if it swims into his mouth.
The only veggie he will eat is romaine. Romaine, romaine, romaine. I've given up offering him anything else.
He'll even get fussy with the pellets...one day its Reptomin....no today its Nutrafin...."no, dummy, (me) it's Wednesday, I gotta have some Zoo-Med!" How's that for a "look"?
The vet says some turtles can be as bad (or worse) than cats....
