New owner seeking questions

I have recently came into possession of a red-eared slider and am ashamed to say I know next to nothing about them. I have learned they are opportunistic eaters, and will eat even when not hungry.

I don't want to overfeed her of course, but don't want to underfeed either. I have purchased some pellets at the store and for an adult female, how many pellets per day is average?

Thank you very much

Check redearslider.com/pellets.html for a general overview. How big is your turtle? Any physical issues? How big is the tank? Was there a previous owner?

No physical issues that I am aware of. My nephew found him on the side of the road and brought her home, and his mom wouldn't let him keep her, so long story short, it was given to me

I didn't measure the shell, but looks like 5 to 6 inches, from neck to tail

I went and purchased one of those inflatable 'kiddie pools', filled it with water, and some rocks for basking, and also put in some hedge trimmings, so it would seem like a 'marsh' type setting

I also covered one of the ends of the pool with sone plastic that will serve as a shade and shelter from any storms

Do you know if it strayed from a pond? If it is a female, she may have been looking for a place to nest.

Not saying I condone keeping smaller turtles but a wild turtle that size should be returned to the wild. If you can find a lake or pond to release it into I feel it would be better off.
