What size is your tank?

10 gallons.

Am I really supposed to start using bottled water, now? So much to learn.

I wouldn't buy a canister filter until you get a bigger tank. You don't have to buy bottled water. You could use a Britta faucet filter or if you really have no choice keep using the water conditioner. Yea I actually just said that. I won't use it but that's just me.

don't tell me to quit reptisafe. ingredients: water, dechlorinating agent, synthetic organic polymers (isnt it wrong to use synthetic and organic in the same sentence?) , chelating agent, electrolytes.
hmmm.... maybe ill get a carbon filter thing, but will it remove chlorine as well as reptisafe? its the only water conditioner i ever used.

I have a 300 gallon tank and all I use is carbon filtered water to do water changes. I also have carbon in my filter and change it monthly.

I run my water through a whole house water filter with a carbon filter. viewtopic.php?f=9&t=33171
The carbon that you use in your tank filter lasts about 2 weeks but most change it monthly. The carbon you use in a whole house filter lasts much much longer.
