a Ramshorn every other day or so?

Hey guys,

In a separate tank, I'm "growing " Ramshorn snails for Thor to eat. When I feed one to him I crush it beforehand so there are no possible issues of it plugging up his system.

My question is, how often to feed them to Thor and still maintain a healthy diet? I don't want whatever is in Ramshorn snails to have too high of concentrate in Thor, but if that's not really possible, I have lots and lots of snails I can feed him.

before answering that question, know that I feed Thor a variety of other stuff, two different kinds of pellets, dandelions, red leaf lettuce, an occasional redworm, and an occasional minnow, and trying other aquatic plants....

thanks for your insight, Todd

Snails are another protein plus calcium.
So every couple of days is fine.

Lots of protein in snails and with pellets also he will be getting a good amount of protein.

Protein promotes growth and you don't want him growing too fast otherwise he will develop shell issues such as pyramiding

If my turtle ate veggies I'd feed lettuce or green leaf veggies everyday and some form of protein every 2-3 days
I think that would be ideal.

Older turtles probably veggies everyday and protein every 3 or 4 days

Consider a snail or any live food a protein so it's either pellets or live food on the protein days.

But keep pellets in the rotation as they do provide great nutrients

How big are they that you need to crush them?

the snails are maybe 1/4inh round, but my turtle is a little guy. by crushing them Thor still gets all the boold and guts and the broken shell, and I don't have to worry about him choking on one
