we have a RES who is a little less than 1.5 years old. we noticed his current tank was getting cramped so we moved him to a larger tank today. when we did i measured him and he is about 6 inches long now on the shell. i thought it looked like he grew a lot in the last month or so but after reading up it seems that 6 inches at this age is pretty large. is there someway to contain his growth a bit? my wife already feeds him every other day (or sometimes 3rd day) but she may be over feeding him on those feedings still. his water temp is about 78* and basking temp is about 90.

How much are you feeding, and what are you feeding?

6 inches is large for 1.5 years old. Are you measuring just the shell front to back with a straight edge? See the bottom of

For the correct way to measure.

Also, at that size if you aren't mixing in veggies you should be. That will fill up your turtle without providing as much protein, and it mimics the diet in the wild.

Any chance you can post a pic?
