Feeding and Nutrition :: How often should I feed my RES

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Post Posted: Tue Jun 18, 2013 9:39 pm   How often should I feed my RES

I was reading the Frequency and Quantity page in the nutrition tab on the home page and it says to feed pellets to a RES that's over 1yrs. old every other day or every two days. So my question is what do I feed them on the day(s) that they don't get pellets? and how often should they be fed? once a day? twice? etc. Please help me out

They can receive veggies every day. For the days they get pellets, roughly a head size amount if it were hollow and not including the neck. Even less would be preferable, like 2/3.

Steve thank you, I'm assuming the portion of the veggies should be head size as well?

I typically feed as much veggies as the turtle will eat. I use the head size portion guideline only for pellets.

Cool, thanks I will start on some veggies, she loves red leaf lettuce. She'll eat that all day if she could.

With the veggies, you should monitor their poop and it will become looser and messier. If it noticeably worse, I would cut down on the veggies.

I'm a big fan of aquatic plants. You can leave them in there until they're devoured and they won't go bad like lettuce or other veggies. My turt seems to eat an appropriate amount of plants to where his stool isn't loose. Lettuce I've had to monitor more.
