I think something's wrong...

Ok, I immediately feel stupid about doing this, but it happened, and I am very worried. I fed my turtle a small piece of chicken. He ate all of it. He has been very inactive for a week and has been looking sick. Should I take him to the vet, or will he be just fine? I promise to never feed him any raw meat again... Got some bad advice on turtle care...

I think a trip to the vet is warranted. Steve may know better though.
Has he eaten anything else? Pellets or lettuce? If not, definitely get to the vet.

Turns out it was a more of a cleaning problem than anything else. We cleaned the tank and he was more encouraged to swim. Had nothing to do with chicken, though I'm still never feeding him that ever again.

What's the water temperature? How big is he? How much water does he have?

Too late... He died... I cleaned his tank and got the water temperature up to what I read was the recommended temperature, yet he didn't live through it... Was his death caused by the chicken? After he ate it, he didn't want to eat anything and was just in general moping about.

A small piece would not have caused it. I'm sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss. I too doubt that a piece of chicken would cause him to fall ill and die so quickly.

My dad and I are suspecting that he starved. We didn't realize it. I daily offered him ReptoMin pellets, and he refused them. Is it a bad brand or was he very stubborn in his tastes?
And after closer inspection, it was the water temperature that killed him.

Have you ever seen him eat anything at all? How long have you have him? Any previous owners?
(Reptomin, Zoo med, HBH, Mazuri are some reputable brands for RES feeding)

He had eaten before, but not very much. He only had one previous owner to my knowledge, and that's the guy we bought him from. I only had him a month.

What was the water temperature? Did you use a heater?

The water temperature was below 70. I did not think to use a heater because every time prior when we checked, the temperature was fine.

He could survive water that's 70F. It's likely something else was wrong.

I feed mine shredded chicken and he LOVES it and never shows any side affects. I only give it MAYBE once a month.
