Feeding and Nutrition :: Feeders

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

I know Rosy Minnows and crickets are good feeders for the RES, but is there other feeders they can have as well? I have a Beardy that is getting small Dubia Roaches because they have a lot more nutritional value than crickets. Can the :mrgreen: eat the small roaches too? Has anyone used these feeders before?

Right now I'm giving my :mrgreen: minnows, once, every other week. Every now and then I'll swap the minnows for crickets.

Earthworms are good, and I think some use small grasshoppers and snails too. Not sure about roaches, I guess it depends on where they came from.

I'm chiming in because I'm curious too - if you get the calcium-dusted crickets, would that be a good idea for those turtles who don't eat their cuttlebones much?

You can, though there should be enough calcium in the pellets and lettuce the turtle eats. If you do add a calcium supplement, make sure its's phosphorus free.
