Feeding and Nutrition :: In case of emergency...

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

I was looking over my list of food storage and realized I had plenty of protein for the turtles, but no veggies.
What if I can't get fresh veggies in an emergency? I'm talking about, say, one to three months of not being able to get them. If I am growing them, then of course I would share, but I have nothing growing at the moment.

I have never seen veggie sticks like the protein sticks. Is there a suitable product out there that I could store a lot of? Could the turtles eat canned vegetables? (I cringed when I wrote that, by the way.)

I need to go get some wheat germ pellets and add them to my storage setup. I wonder... could I get freeze-dried vegetables and rehydrate them?

They would be unhappy with the rations, I'm sure, but they would survive. Hmm. I'll bet I could can zucchini and a mix of their favorite foods.

AHA!
Ok, so I can dehydrate dandelion greens to store them and then grind / mix them up with unflavored gelatin when I'm ready to use them.
Or I can flash-freeze the leaves and stems and keep them for six months.

That find may have just solved my problem. I'm going to try dehydrating them this weekend, perhaps.

... also I have duckweed and water hyacinth in the backyard that I could pull from too. I guess I'm alright.

I'm late to this, but wouldn't the jell-o shots have plenty of veggies for them? It's great that we can (and should) offer a variety of leafy greens for them.
