I was wondering if water wisteria was a safe plant for my res tank?

The leaves yes, but the stems may be too bitter for the turtle's taste. Both parts are safe.

As for plants in general... nothing is really safe from a RES. Generally speaking, if the RES can fit it in their mouth they will try to eat it. Not all turtles are plant destroyers but I believe most are. A few of us even grow plants in a second tank for our :mrgreen: .

Well I'm not worried about the plant being destroyed...I just am not sure what plants would be toxic for the turtle. What about java fern, or some java moss...?

Most aquatic plants are safe for turtles. Here's a list of plants that have been used by others and should be considered safe for your turtle. No guarantee your turtle will like every one of these, but it's a good start...
