Hey guys I have 3 baby RES. 2 of which are only the size of quarters and the other about 2 inches or so and have always fed them pellets , a veggie/fruit mix, and some shrimp or tuna every once in a while. I had other RES before and gave them Rosy Reds and ever since then every time I would go to get one of them out to do a water change one would turn her head and try to bite me thinking my hand is a fish. Im afraid if I give the turtles I have now fish this will happen again even tho it is fun to watch them chase the fish. They have never had fish at all so it would be intresting to see what happens.

PLEASE HELP!!

Your turtle may try and bite you even if you don't give them fish, some turtles just don't like being handled.

ok I was just afraid that it might make them mean. The quarter sized ones the person i got them from said she gave them fish and they ate it so I think Ill go get a few rosy reds today and see what happens. Butter my 2 inch one is by him self and the other two are in a seperate set up so you think 3 for butter and 3 to share between peanut and jelly is enough

Agreed. Biting is something that happens. They may bite you for just looking at 'em funny. :P
I mean I have a cat that tries to bite and scratch all the time, but she is the world's best cuddle bug. You just have to know when and when not to mess around with certain pets. I've noticed with turtles, food time typically implies your finger might be potential food. Besides, your turtle is a baby. Turtle bites can be bad, but Tesla is 4.5 inches and he hasn't taken a chunk of meat out of me yet.

One of the unavoidable joys of turtle keeping. ;>

lol, i think it would take a while for your turts to bite hard enough to take a finger. Kaya bit me once trying to get some food out of my hand, shes an adult, probably about 8-9 inches and it didnt hurt very bad at all. I think she did realize right away that it was my finger though so she let go right away, i guess it may have been a different story if she was biting me intentionally.

well i put 3 rosy reds in both of my turtle tanks. Butter whos in the 75 gallon alone already ate 2 of them. And Peanut and Jelly are in another tank and Jelly ate one and now the other fish it just swimming. I also put an anacharis plant in butters tank I put it in the veggie clip and he has been pulling chunks off of it. This was my third try at putting that plant in there with him. And this time he finally liked it.
