eg; can turtles climb trees? no. so they don't eat bananas. do turtles dig in ground? no. so they should not eat carrot. etc.
one could always argue that eg. banana can fall down from the tree and then be eaten by a RES.

The issue is that most of the things available in natural condition, ie a vast variety of aquatic flora and fauna, are not there for a captive RES. It is really difficult to get the kind of variety that they would have in a pond, so we attempt to give them a variety of foods that have the variety of nutrients that turtles need. Banannas and carrots are both ok as an occasional supplement, because they both have nutritional value as foods. I would love to give my turts water plants everyday, but even if I grow my own, or buy them every other day, they still don't have the kind of constant available variety that nature provides.

Did you know wolfs and tigers and stuff do not have the capability to digest dog food and cat food? they can only digest pure meat and fat off another animal. crazy huh? The dogs and cats you see today have body parts in there stomachs that wild dogs and cats dont I believe i read on a few websites and even seen on some tv show about animals. you would never think about something like that
