Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Random question that I've been thinking about. Of you who have fish in your tank do you feed them fish food? I was thinking about this in my turtles last tank when I had a couple of minnows in it I'd feed them every couple of days some flake food but most times I'd just let them be because I also fed my turtle's jello shots in the same tank and they would munch on the mess the turtle would make.

I've got a couple of algae eaters in the new tank and not too concerned about feeding them as there is plenty of stuff for them to eat (well I think). Thinking about getting a couple other fish and thats what got me thinking.

I feed my fish flakes, my turtle may occasionally snag a couple but not enough to worry about. I feed my pleco algae wafers, and Sheldon will sometimes steal those too.

I only have one big goldfish in with my turtle. The goldfish eats the turtle pellets they race for them. Every once in a while I put a little pinch of fish food in for the goldfish as a treat. My turtle ignores it. The goldfish also eats lettuce with him side by side. It's pretty funny to watch.

I would say you need to supplement the algae eaters diet. Especially since you have more than one of them. You can throw in some sinking algae wafers.... just feed your turtle on one side of the tank and throw the wafers on the opposite corner for the fish. As for the minnows, if it's only a few of them, they should be fine just eating turtle leftovers. I never feed mine.

I'll pick up some wafers its a 100 gallon stock tank so dont' think they will run out of scum to eat yet :). As for the minnows well they passed on a couple of months ago. They mysteriously vanished from the tank lol

Thanks!

Ha. I have 3 goldies and 3 yellow labs. I throw some flakes in everyday and I have some cichlid sticks that I break up (yellow labs are still small). I may be overfeeding the fish though. I'm not sure.

It's highly beneficial for them to get some green vegetables, read the site to see what's good to feed.
