Feeding and Nutrition :: treats

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

my turtle has a shell that is about 3 inches long. i have a few questions about his diet:
1. everyday i feed red leaf lettuce and at most a half head of pellets. is this okay? should i change the frequency to once every few days and is the diet too restrained?
2. if i were to make the turtle jello what veggies should i blend up?
3. what are your thoughts on feeder fish, goldfish, earthworms, etc. as a treat? i was worried about the parasite thing and excessive protein and whether my turtle is too small to be hunting yet.
4. what are the best sources of fiber i can give my turtle? i occasionally give him some fruit but are there any sources i could give on a daily basis

i also think my turtle is getting a little chubby so are there any 'exercises' we can do to curb off some of the flab? :lol: thanks!

1 - Sounds fine as the main diet. Feel free to occasionally mix it up - different veggies, pellets, treats, etc. once or twice a week (depending on what it is).
2 - Any recommended veggie that is listed on the site should be fine.
3 - Live prey is totally optional and I think many skip it. I haven't used any live prey in years, but if you do skip goldfish and make sure you carefully check their source.
4 - I'm not sure, is there a particular reason why you want to have a certain level of fiber in the diet?

I don't think there are exercises one can use on their turtle, I guess it's mainly about controlling the diet and limiting the portions.
