Cuttlebone safe to chew?

I leave a big chunk of cuttlebone (with the backing cut off) in my turtle's tank as a source of calcium. Squirt always gnaws on it, so I just wanted to make sure it was safe for him to be eating it! Thanks

Yup, he's supposed to eat it. Some leave it in, some choose to give it in pieces.

That's the purpose of cuttlebone---for them to eat it and get added calcium.

My bad! Haha thanks :]
Also, is it better to leave the cuttlebone in as a big chunk or as little pieces?

Either or is fine. Some will eat them big and some prefer them smaller. My RES will only eat them if they are in small pieces, he never touches the big ones.
