Guppies sure spawn allot so I wouldn't be surprised if you do make it to 300 probably even more by the end of the year. But if you really want to go forward with this you might want to buy a bigger enclosure for them. You don't have to go out and spend 50 bucks on a 30 gallon or anything just a rubbermaid container should do fine they are pretty cheap and you can find them at walmart and other stores. Also make sure there is allot of hiding spots for the fry to hide because they will eat the fry. Other then that I hope you reach your goal!

thanks, I have a 12 gallon, and 53 gallon tank waiting for them, eventually I'll get a Rubbermaid. I gave them a couple of good hiding spots so they should manage.

I have been breeding guppys (not fancys) for a month now..i started with 5 females and 2 males and i have some fry swimming around but not alot

they are fun to watch..only downside is my filter is a power filter and the fry almost get sucked up so i had to put a sponge in the tube to eliminate that

im using a 10 gal..seems to be enough space
I like turtles ;]

well for one ur tank is too small for beeding, only bescause once the fry are born they will be eaten right away by all those adults in such a small space, if u r going to move the female to seperate tank for her to give birth than there is no doubt in my mind you will beach 300. i know 2 ppl with ponds that they put their guppies in for the summer and in 4 weeks they both have hundreds.

sir max, u should use a sponge filter

Yeah but that tank filter would collapse if the guppies start to reproduce heavily(let's say for a moment that the frys won't get eaten right away, as they will). Also, with no live plants the No3 level will slowly but steadily climb up, resulting in diseases/deaths.
I think you should set-up the 53 gallon to avoid headaches, and put a lot of real plants in there(esp. ceratophyllum-riccia fluitans-java moss, ideal for the frys to hide in). If you do that breeding guppies will be a pieace of cake. Probably you'd have to sell/give away some too..

I started out a year ago with 3 female and 1 male fancy guppies. I have managed to have so many babies that I haven't had to buy and feeder fish for my 6 turtles in a year and I also have given a number of them away.

Most likley you will reach 300. When i started to breed feeder guppies started with 10 male & 10 female ended up with about a hundred in less than a month.
