Sardines

Well I was going to ask if it was OK to give my turts some Sardines once and a while but It looks like its OK from doing a search about it.

So what I will say / ask, is that my little one have now gone nuts over Sardines and i think that's all they want. I only gave them two helpings (a total of one Sardine) once at night and once the next morning, and yes the sardines were in water only.

Tonight when I got home they were begging for more food (not unusual) so not wanting to see them go hungry (I know, I know), I dropped in about 10 micro pellets (the ones for babies) and they just looked at them and then at me, then went to the bottom of the tank waiting for the Sardine to sink for them to go nuts on.

Now my question is, how often should I give them a sardine during the week?

I don't know much about sardines, except they're usually pretty oily. Also, make sure there's no added salt or anything.

If they're just straight sardines with no additives, feed them no more than once a month. That's the guideline for any sort of protein treat.

I give sardines packed in spring water occasionally as a treat. Only pieces, however, that are about the size of their heads---you are giving entirely too much and too frequently. Even though they're packed in water, I rinse the pieces well before offering them. The rinsed bones, which are soft, can be given as well for added calcium.
