Feeding and Nutrition :: Nutrafin or Reptomin?

Pellets are my terrapins' main diet and I have to choose which brand will do the best for them. I only have two options, Nutrafin or Reptomin.
I don't know which one is better for them, anyone know?
Reptomin costs 3 times more than Nutrafin in my local stores but if its healthier I won't mind.

My advice would be to look at the ingredients on the label.

When I first got Charlie as a hatchling I chose pellets that were high in protein. Now that he's almost a year old, I put him on the adult diet with less protein but more fiber and greens.

I tried doing that swapping from Reptomin to Nutrafin, and even ZooMed & Wardley. It seems they would not each the changed brand until they were so hungry they had no choice (ie: they would do the normal begging thing but not eat what food I put in). I'm also not sure if changing their food is similar to other animals (dogs, cats, etc), where is messes with their digestive system.

Personally I have stayed with the Wardley. It seems to be the best value, it doesn't turn the water green as I believe the Reptomin did, and the turtles have never not eaten it. I wanted to move up to the ZooMed brand (seemed to be healthier and designed better) once because they liked the Juvenile formula but didn't take to the Adult so went back to Wardley. I supplement the pellets now with the ZooMed Red Shrimps.

One good thing about alternating brands is that a turtle doesn't get fixated on one kind of turtle food only. it won't mess up their digestive systems. I rotate between 3 or 4 brands and have never had any problems with any of my turtles. I think what may be lacking in one brand can be made up for with another; it adds variety to the diet.

nutrfin=regular ingrediants reptomin=vitamin enhanced food (including calcium, for those who have trouble feeding their turtles cuttlebone) the only reason someone might pick nutrafin is cause its cheaper.

Reptomin by far ahead. one of the turtle i adopted developed shell curling of that nutrafin crap(last owner was overfeeding but still).

I never tried nutrafin but i have some reptomin and my res loves it. Also some zoomed turtle food to give him a variety. I give him the zoomed a bit more since he's already a juvenile and it has less protein.

I put in a little Nutrafin Max every once in awhile, just to mix it up a little.

HBH is what I'm using now, but I've also used Reptomin and Wardley. HBH is a cut above the rest I believe; no preservatives, made from real veggies, better ingredients, etc. Check all the labels and decide what is best. Wardley is better than Reptomin and HBH is better than Wardley.

ive been using reptomin for my turtle and she semms to like it. and it does have all the necessary ingredients packed with vitamins and nutrients

Ralph basically grew up on Nutrafin. Then when I found this site, I switched to Reptomin, which he also accepted readily. Just in the last year, I've switched to HBH, which like Spike said, just seems to have better ingredients.

But between Nutrafin and Reptomin, your best bet is to compare the ingredients and nutritional info side by side. I tend to lean away from anything that starts with wheat gluten meal or any other sort of grain as the first ingredient.

That being said, I've also found Reptomin is on the expensive side, sometimes ridiculously so. You'll just have to decide if the difference in ingredients is worth the price difference.

I'm using Reptomin. I wanted Wardley, because I used their fish products loyally and had great results, never any problems, and it was readily available. Except I liked Hikari algae wafers. Hmm.

I have Reptomin because the first time I went to Petsmart, the only baby size they had was Reptomin. And the next time the only pellets that didn't have dusty shrimp added or just looked bizzare was the Reptomin plus. I am currently breaking the pellets in half to make them baby size and picking out the 'shrimp bites' because they look too big to swallow.

Ingredients: fish meal, wheat starch, shrimp.

I. . . . . think I will be giving more veggies now. Hmm. Sounds like a lot of protein.
