The food from your friend is the food that they were eating previously? If you just got them, it may take them a bit to get adjusted to their new home and feel comfortable enough to eat. If they're really small, regular Reptomin might need to be broken up to make it easier to eat. Give them a little time. Food that moves (like pieces of an earthworm) or is smelly (bits of tuna or sardines) is often attractive to hatchlings.

Tuna in a can (water). It's not a staple, so you should pick up a can of reputable turtle pellets -- reptomin should be easy to find.
