Feeding and Nutrition :: Is my minnow pregnant?

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Post Posted: Thu Apr 08, 2010 5:16 pm   Is my minnow pregnant?

I got some minnows for my turtles to eat but they can't catch them and I think one of my minnows is pregnant. Does she look pregnant? Her belly is generally large with a black spot at the end. I'm thinking of raising feeder minnows instead of going to the store and buying them.

pregnant fish have a noticeably distended bellies, and some (particularly livebearers) have a dark spot below the base of the tail, near the anus.

Just some info i got off a website..sorry i couldnt say yes or no
I like turtles ;]

i think thats a guppy. and she might be but if she is she still has a good 2-3 weeks b4 she would have them. try not to stress her too much. keep her in a fairly large tank if u can. preferably a planted tank bc they will eat their fry afetr birth and the plants give the fry spots to hide

She's been like this for a good ~2 weeks, maybe even 3. But I think it's a fathead minnow because I bought it from the "Rosy Red Minnows" tank.
Don't think the fry got any place to hide since my tank has giant gold fish that'll swallow anything, including a whole turtle pellet, turtles and not to mention other minnows.

yes shes pregnant.. i use to have guppies, mollies, sword tails, when i was a kid and they ALL looked like that when pregnant.

if you want to raise feeder fish for your turtle, i'd reccomend guppies, because they will mate ALOT and you will constantly have fish to feed to your turtle. and as a plus, guppies are hard to kill, for example my brother accidently put the heater on too high, killed everything in the tank except the guppies.

Yah it really look like a pregnant guppie,i have several mothers guppy here, generaly it take 4-6 weeks after the last batch before i see the fry.

The older the guppie is,the more fry you will have, dont be surprise if you get only 5 fry off your young female.
